How to Merge Photo & Signature Into One Image for Exam Forms

Updated March 2026 · 5 min read

A lot of exam registration portals — SSC, IBPS, UPSC, GATE, university admissions — ask you to upload a single combined image with your photograph on top and your signature below. Some even specify exact pixel dimensions and file size limits.

Doing this in Photoshop or MS Paint is possible but fiddly. And most online tools require you to upload your photo and signature to their server, which isn't great when you're dealing with identity documents.

FormFocus lets you merge photo and signature entirely inside your browser — nothing leaves your device. Here's how.

Before You Start

Make sure you have two separate image files ready:

The signature image doesn't have to be perfectly cropped. You'll be able to position and resize both images on the canvas.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Switch to the Photo & Sign Merger Tab

Open FormFocus and click "Photo & Sign Merger" in the top navigation bar. On mobile, tap the hamburger menu (☰) first.

Step 2: Upload Both Images

You'll see two upload buttons: "Upload Photo" and "Upload Signature." Click each one and select the respective image file from your device.

Once both are loaded, you'll see them appear on an interactive canvas below.

Step 3: Use Ink Enhancer (If Needed)

Did you photograph your signature with a phone? It might look faint or have a greyish background. Check the "Ink Enhancer" checkbox — it boosts the contrast so the signature ink looks sharp and the background appears cleaner.

Step 4: Adjust Layout and Positioning

The Split Ratio slider controls how much vertical space each image gets. Slide it left for more signature space, right for more photo space. Most forms expect the photo to take about 60–70% of the height.

You can also drag each image directly on the canvas to reposition it, and use the corner handles to resize them. The "Auto Arrange" button does a quick layout that works for most standard requirements.

Step 5: Choose Canvas Size

The dropdown lets you pick a canvas size. The default 600×800 px works for most forms. If your form specifies exact dimensions, pick "Custom" and enter those values.

Step 6: Download the Merged Image

Once you're happy with the positioning, click "Download Merged Image." You'll get a single JPEG file with your photo and signature combined.

💡 Practical Tips:

What If My Form Asks for Separate Photo and Signature?

Some forms want you to upload photo and signature as separate files — not merged. In that case, you don't need this tool. Just use the Resize & Compress tool to resize each image individually to the required dimensions and file size.

Why Not Just Use Photoshop?

You totally can. But for a simple task like this, opening Photoshop, creating a canvas, importing two images, aligning them, flattening, and exporting is overkill. FormFocus gives you all the controls you need in a single screen — and it's free, instant, and doesn't require installation.

Plus, your documents stay on your device. No cloud uploads, ever.

FAQ

Can I merge more than two images?

Not currently — the merger is designed specifically for the photo + signature combo that exam forms ask for.

What output format does it produce?

JPEG by default. If you need a different format, use the Format Converter tool afterwards.

Does it work offline?

Yes, after the initial page load. FormFocus caches everything locally.
